Revisiting a London Nightlife Chapter

Some blogs are useful because they tell you what's happening next. Others become interesting because they remember what happened before. This one has a little of both possibilities.

I'm James WJ Wilson. After years publishing about London nightlife, time in Budapest and a long break, I'm back in London and revisiting these pages.

I'd like to bring this archive back into view, with occasional recollections about Dolce and London's nightlife of that period. The older articles keep their dates and credits; they are historical reports, not current venue or booking information.

This is my independent editorial blog, not an official venue announcement channel. Any new coverage will be clearly dated and checked in its own right.

Dolce was one of the best London clubs

Dolce London on Air Street was one of the most iconic London clubs in its brief time at the top. No expense was spare in attracting the A-list celebrities of its day. It took over the mantle from Chinawhite as the premiere club on the divide between Mayfair and Soho with some of the most iconic nights at the time.

The club was open 7 days a week at one time which mean there was always a place to head to. The design of the club set a trend which was imitated by Crystal, Jalouse, and many others.

Despite being a great nightclub, going doing as one of the legendary clubs of its day some of the gloss and glamour of those nights was erased by the way the club saw its demise with some of the best club promoters in London, alcohol companies, celebrities, and the staff themselves being screwed for tens of thousands of pounds when blank cheques and empty promises being delivered by the management before everyone vanished.

It was a classic scheme taking place at the time with some of the best London club names running up huge debts and then folding leaving a wake of recriminations.

For many these revelations will come as a shock but for those familiar with the London nightlife scene it will be nothing more than confirmation of the past of one of London's best nightclubs.

Big Brother Darnell Told To Leave Dolce

It seems that being a Big Brother star is not all it's cracked up to be. 27-year-old Darnell was told to leave a Fashion TV party being held at Dolce nightclub because of a ban on Big Brother contestants.

Big Brother Losers Night Out At Dolce

This year's first evictee Stephanie McMichael joined recently departed housemate Stuart Pilkington and the two couples Jennifer Clark and Dale Howard and Rebecca Shiner and Luke Marsden for a club crawl around Mayfair.After starting the night at Embassy, the six 'celebrities' then moved on to Dolce member's club in Piccadilly.

Lily Allen Caught In The Gents At Dolce

Lily Allen's evening on the tiles ended in embarrassment last night after nightclub security threw her out of the men's toilets along with Johnny Borrell and Noel Fielding.The trio were partying at London hotspot Dolce.
